About

Artist Statement

My desire for stillness and solitude is reflected in the images I seek out and photograph, often in urban and industrial environments. My photographs are never crowded with people. Instead, they display only the traces that humans have left behind.

I pay homage to ordinary places and deserted sites that are infused with mystery or beauty due to the ever-changing light, color and atmosphere. My ideal venues are empty streets, roads, buildings or rooms. And I consider my image successful if it evokes hidden secrets, longing or contemplation in the viewer.

Biography

I have been photographing for over 40 years. While I always shoot when traveling, whether it’s India, Cuba, France, the Galapagos or South Africa, I always come back to New York, my home, and the surrounding areas in New Jersey and Long Island, for my deepest inspiration.

After shooting color slides for most of my life, I now shoot color exclusively using a 35mm digital camera. And when possible, I prefer to do my own printing.
